What is MicroPanel Studio?
MicroPanel Studio is a design time and
run time environment for creating your own micropanels. A micropanel is
a popup information display that can be shown or hidden when flying with
Microsoft Flight Simulator. These micropanels can be whatever size,
shape and color you wish. They can display any information you require
in whatever format you need. There are over 300 different Microsoft
Flight Simulator variables available for use. You may have any number of
micropanels visible or hidden at any time during your flight. A
micropanel is a single self contained file. This means that micropanels
can easily be shared with others. We will soon have a collection of
micropanels available for free download if you don’t want to create your
own...
What MicroPanel Studio is NOT
MicroPanel Studio does
not create regular Microsoft Flight Simulator panels, it creates
micropanels. MicroPanel Studio does not require any understanding of
regular panel design, nor does it require any programming knowledge
(although you can if you wish using the MicroPanel Scripting
Language). Just to be clear, a micropanel is NOT a normal Flight
Simulator panel. It does not require bitmaps, gauges, programming
knowledge or the like. It does not have to be installed, there are no
config files and they don’t replace regular Flight Simulator panels.
So, what’s it all about?
A micropanel is a small window that can be shown and
hidden within Microsoft Flight Simulator. This window is integrated
within Flight Simulator so it can be moved around and toggled on and
off if required. The information that is displayed in this window is
whatever information you want to see. For example, you may want a
window containing weather information such as cloud type, wind speed
and wind direction. You may want a window displaying aircraft speed,
ground speed, altitude and so on. Each of these windows would be a
micropanel that you have designed or downloaded. Micropanels are very
simple to create and the infomation displayed on them can be textual
or graphical, the micropanel itself can be any size and color.
Micropanels are created using the MicroPanel Editor that comes with
the program, so MicroPanel Studio is the program to design the
micropanels and the program to display and update the micropanels when
they are running in Flight Simulator.
Is a micropanel a normal panel or gauge?
A micropanel has got nothing to do with normal
Flight Simulator panels and gauges. A micropanel sits on top of your
Flight Simulator screen, it is not part of a regular panel. This lets
you position your micropanels anywhere on the screen, particularly
useful if you are in full screen mode with the regular Flight
Simulator panel hidden, you may for example, have a small micropanel
across the top of the screen just showing the flight information you
require.
How are micropanels created?
MicroPanel Studio comes with a powerful micropanel
editor. This tool enables you to very very quickly and easily create a
micropanel. It is drag and drop with over 300 Flight Simulator
variables to choose from. Some of these variables include Groundspeed,
Airspeed, Outside Air Temperature, Latitude, Longitude, Engine 1
Temperature and so on and so on. Variables are grouped into categories
because there are so many of them. These categories include Autopilot,
Control Surfaces, Engines, General, Failures, Fuel, Joystick,
Naviagation, Radios, Slew and Weather.
